Match on! Helping Notttingham Forest FC ensure its grounds are safe in adverse weather conditions
Currently fighting for promotion to the Premiere League, Nottingham Forest Football Club is a distinguished club with a long and glorious history.
In preparing for its very important final run of matches in the Championship, the Safety and Security Manager at Nottingham Forest FC, Alan Bexon, needed to ensure that each home game goes ahead regardless of the weather conditions.
Prior to contracting in Shorts Truegrit, when the bad weather hit in December, the football club had to cancel a lucrative home game at very short notice because of the on-site hazards, meaning that the club could not fulfil our duty of care to both home and away fans in allowing them to get into the stadium safely.
Cancelling the game at very short notice can have a severe financial impact for the football club. There are occasions when the police and ambulance service booked for the game still have to be paid regardless of whether or not the game is played on that day. Similarly, those costs are encurred again on the rearranged date, which may not be at a weekend, regularly resulting in a lower crowd attendance so reduced ticket sales and secondary sales. This can amount to tens of thousands of pounds in lost revenue for the club!
Alan Bexon explains how he devised to avoid future weather-related cancellations:
"Determined not to be caught out again, I contacted Dominic Robertson at Shorts Truegrit. Before the next home game two weeks later we had the service in place. With more hazardous weather forecast, Shorts Truegrit had a snow plough on standby and gritted all the required areas leading up to the game allowing us to safely get the supporters onto the site and so optimising the income from a weekend home game."
